Dubai school inspections now come with no more than 24 hours’ notice
Dubai private schools will get no more than 24 hours’ notice before a KHDA quality assurance visit this year. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority set out the new approach on 12 October 2026, with visits starting in the first term of 2026-27. For parents, it means the rating on your child’s school should reflect an ordinary school day, not a rehearsed one.
Two types of visit, chosen with data
According to the KHDA announcement, every eligible private school will receive one of two visits. Which one depends on the data the school submits and how long it has been open. KHDA says AI tools help decide the right type for each school.
| Visit | What the school gets |
|---|---|
| Full visit | A detailed report and an overall rating |
| Shorter follow-up visit | Feedback on strengths and areas to develop, with no new rating |
| Schools in year 1 or 2 | Specialised visits on teaching and learning; a full visit follows in year 3 |
Ratings stay on the familiar six-point scale, from Outstanding down to Very Weak. KHDA says that in the last inspection cycle, 81% of students in Dubai private schools received a Good or better education, and no school was rated Very Weak.
The four areas inspectors will look at
On top of the UAE School Inspection Framework, this year’s visits focus on:
- Early childhood education and care
- The quality of education for Emirati students
- Inclusive education and the progress of students of determination
- How Arabic is taught, including reading, writing, comprehension and communication
Fatma Belrehif, who leads quality assurance and compliance at KHDA, said “every parent has the right to have confidence in the quality of the school they choose for their children.”
What it means for expat families
Short notice is good news if you are choosing a school. A rating earned on a normal Tuesday tells you more than one earned after weeks of preparation. If your child is in KG or the early grades, expect closer attention to early learning this year, and to Arabic at every level.
The inspection looks at the school, not your child. Still, the same skills it checks (reading with understanding, writing clearly, speaking with confidence) are the ones you can build at home. Our English classes for kids and grammar classes work on exactly these.
Not sure where your child stands in English? An AED 30 demo class with a level check gives you a clear answer.
