German Classes in the UAE, Live and One to One
A1 to C1, online, built around why you actually need the language.
Most people who ask us for German in the Emirates have a reason with a deadline attached: a university application, a job move, a professional recognition file. The course is planned backwards from that date.
Start with the deadline, not the level
German is the one language where getting the plan wrong is expensive. Learners here sit the wrong exam, or discover in month eight that their university wanted C1 and they were studying towards B1. So the first session is about what you are aiming at, and the syllabus is built from there.
- One tutor, one learner. You speak for the session rather than waiting your turn in a room of twelve.
- Gulf Standard Time slots. Set around your shifts, not around a European timetable.
- Aimed at a named outcome. University admission, a visa file, a recognition process, or simply work.
- Corrected as you speak. Cases are learned by getting them wrong out loud and being caught.
Fees
German is quoted per level rather than one flat rate, so ask for the current AED figure before you book. The demo is fixed at AED 30 and includes a level check plus a live session.
That AED 30 is not refunded and is not adjusted against a course fee later. Full terms sit on the policy page.
Why German, from here
Three reasons account for almost every German enquiry we get in the Emirates, and only one of them is about travel.
Which German exam, and what it is for
There are four names people meet, and they are not interchangeable. Picking the wrong one is the single most common and most expensive error in German preparation.
| Exam | Mainly used for | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| TestDaF | University admission in Germany | Reports a level per skill rather than one overall mark |
| DSH | University admission, taken at a German university | Usually sat in Germany, so it suits applicants already there |
| Goethe-Zertifikat | Visas, employers, professional recognition | Graded A1 to C2, widely recognised outside universities |
| telc | Visas, employers, some recognition processes | Includes profession specific versions, for example for medical staff |
Accepted exams and minimum levels are set by the receiving university, employer or authority and do change. Confirm with them directly before booking a test.
Levels, and what each one is good for
We teach A1 to C1. C2 is a specialist target and most people who need it are already living in the language rather than taking classes in it.
| Level | What you can do | Usually needed for |
|---|---|---|
| A1 | Introduce yourself, shop, ask directions. Present tense, and the first meeting with der, die and das. | Family reunion visas in some cases |
| A2 | Handle everyday errands and talk about your past. The case endings start to matter here. | Everyday life, some job routes |
| B1 | Manage a work conversation, describe a problem, follow a colleague speaking normally. | Many skilled worker routes |
| B2 | Work in German, follow a meeting, write clear professional email. | Employment, several recognition processes |
| C1 | Study in German, argue a position, read academic text at speed. | German taught degrees |
Levels follow the CEFR scale published by the Council of Europe. The level your destination requires is theirs to set.
The four things that make German feel hard
German is front loaded. Almost everything difficult arrives in the first six months, and once it is in place the language becomes unusually predictable. Knowing that in advance keeps people going through the part where it feels impossible.
Three genders, and no reliable rule
Der, die and das. There are patterns by ending, and they leak. The only workable approach is to learn the article with the noun from day one, because a vocabulary list you have to go back and re gender is a vocabulary list you will learn twice.
Four cases
Nominative, accusative, dative and genitive. The article changes depending on the job the noun is doing in the sentence, which English stopped doing centuries ago. This is the wall. It is also the last genuinely hard thing; get through it and the rest is vocabulary and practice.
The verb goes to the end
In a subordinate clause the verb moves to the back, so you have to know how your sentence finishes before you start it. Speakers who plan sentence by sentence in English find this genuinely disorienting, and it is best fixed by talking rather than by reading about it.
Separable verbs
Anrufen means to call, but you say ich rufe dich an, with the prefix stranded at the end. Miss the last word of a German sentence and you can misunderstand the whole thing, which is why listening practice matters earlier in German than in most languages.
How a session runs
Grammar heavy languages tempt tutors into lecturing. We do the opposite, because cases are learned by producing them badly and being corrected, not by reading a table of endings.
- You speak first, imperfectly. The tutor listens for which case you dropped rather than interrupting each sentence.
- One pattern per session. Dative after certain prepositions, say. Not the whole table at once.
- Then you use it aloud, in sentences about your own week, until it stops needing a pause.
- Exam work if you have a date. If you are sitting TestDaF or a Goethe level, the format gets rehearsed in the last stretch.

Frequently asked questions
What level of German do I need to study in Germany?
For a degree taught in German, universities commonly ask for C1 evidence, usually TestDaF or DSH. For a degree taught in English you may need no German at all to be admitted, though you will still want A2 or B1 to handle the visa appointment, the paperwork and daily life. Requirements are set by each university and change, so confirm with the institution before you plan around a level.
Is German harder than French or Spanish?
Harder at the start, easier later. The three genders and four cases arrive immediately and there is no way around them. But spelling is consistent, pronunciation is regular, and once the case system clicks the language stops throwing surprises. Most learners find German front loaded and Spanish back loaded.
How long to reach B1?
Around nine to twelve months at two or three sessions a week for most adults starting from zero, longer if you stop between levels. Anyone quoting you a fixed number of hours is guessing, because the variable is how much you speak, not how many hours you sit.
Which certificate should I take?
It depends entirely on what you need it for. TestDaF and DSH are for university admission. Goethe and telc certificates are the usual choice for visas, employers and professional recognition. Taking the wrong one is an expensive mistake, so confirm what your university, employer or authority accepts before booking anything.
What does a German class cost in AED?
German is quoted per level, so ask for the current AED figure before booking. The demo costs AED 30 and includes a level check. Published rates for our other courses are on the course fees page.
Do you teach children German?
Yes, separately. Children get more listening, more repetition and far less grammar than an adult course, which is why the two are not the same class.
Related classes in the UAE
German for adults sits here. Children learn it on a separate track, and if you are still choosing between languages the other course pages set out what each one is realistically for.
Bring the deadline to the first session
The university, the employer or the authority you are applying to has already decided which level and which certificate it accepts. Bring that to the demo and we will tell you honestly whether it is reachable in your timeframe, before you pay for a course. The demo is AED 30 and includes a level check.
