The Importance of English in UAE’s Global Corporate Landscape
The UAE is one of the fastest-growing economies, attracting significant foreign direct investment (FDI) from companies worldwide. With its strategic location, diverse population, and emerging opportunities, the UAE has become a global hub for business and innovation. This influx of multinational corporations has created a dynamic and multicultural work environment, where professionals from different cultures and countries collaborate seamlessly.
In such a competitive and interconnected market, mastering business English is no longer optional, it is essential. As English remains the global business language, it is crucial for professionals in the UAE to develop strong communication skills to succeed in their careers.
Why English Skills Matter in the Corporate World
Companies in the UAE value multilingual employees who can foster a cosmopolitan culture within their organizations. For individuals, adapting to this broader work environment requires fluency in English to thrive in various roles such as customer service, sales, and business development.
Language proficiency directly impacts professional success. Research shows that nearly 63% of organizations report a gap in critical English skills when hiring candidates. While many employees have a basic level of fluency, there is often room for improvement to achieve advanced communication skills.

What Is Advance English at WizMantra UAE?
It's a live one to one course for people who are already fluent, around CEFR B2, and want the precision of C1 for presentations, negotiations and writing. Classes run 30 minutes, Monday to Friday, online at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time. An AED 30 demo confirms you're ready for this level before you commit.
Who is Advance English for?
Learners at B2 who want C1. On the CEFR scale, C1 means expressing yourself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for words, and using language flexibly for social, academic and professional purposes.
You're already fluent. The problem is different now: you sound less precise than you think, and in a room of native speakers or senior stakeholders it shows. Maybe you're the project manager in Abu Dhabi who runs every internal meeting in English and still rehearses the steering committee update twice. Or the consultant in Dubai Internet City whose ideas land better in writing than when you say them out loud.
What changes between B2 and C1?
Mostly control. At B2 you can say what you mean. At C1 you choose how it lands.
| At B2 you... | At C1 you... |
|---|---|
| Explain a point clearly | Explain it concisely, then handle the pushback |
| Use common linking words | Signal structure: however, granted, which brings me to |
| Write correct emails | Write emails people act on, in the right register |
| Follow most native speech | Follow humour, idiom and what is implied but left unsaid |
Cambridge English estimates around 200 more guided hours from B2 (500 to 600) to C1 (700 to 800), counted from beginner. The gains are smaller and harder to see, which is why most people stall here without feedback.
That's the honest part. You won't hear a dramatic jump after four weeks. You'll notice that a meeting took less effort, or that a client stopped asking you to repeat yourself. Those are the signs.
Why do fluent speakers still sound less senior than they are?
Usually it's register and precision, rarely grammar. A sentence can be correct and still sound junior, too blunt or oddly formal.
- The nearly right word. "Big problem" where "material risk" would carry more weight in a board pack.
- One register for everything. The same tone in a WhatsApp to the team and an email to the CFO.
- Directness that reads as rude, or hedging that reads as unsure. Getting this right with a British director and an Emirati client in the same week is a real skill.
- Habits from your first language. South Asian English favourites like "do the needful" or "revert back" sound fine in one office and odd in another. Arabic speakers often build very long sentences joined by "and", which loses listeners on a call. Tagalog and Malayalam speakers often carry their own stress patterns into long English words.
None of this needs an accent change. Clear beats native sounding, as the piece on clear English in the UAE workplace argues. If accent itself is the goal, American English classes work on it directly.
Where does English in the UAE stand?
Just under the global average. The EF English Proficiency Index 2025 scores the UAE 487, ranked 72nd, against a global average of 488. Dubai scores 513, Abu Dhabi 481 and Sharjah 479.
Those numbers say less about individuals than about the mix. English is the working language of most private sector offices here, so plenty of people use it all day at B1 or B2 and never get pushed further. If you're already at B2, you're ahead of the average. The gap that matters is the one between you and the people you present to, negotiate with and report to.
It's a familiar picture for someone from Kerala, Cairo or Manila who's worked here for years: confident in English at work, rarely corrected, and quietly aware that the top meetings still feel harder than they should.
What does an Advance class work on?
Your real work, rehearsed. You bring the thing that's coming up, and the class turns it into practice.
- A negotiation role play where the teacher plays a supplier in Jebel Ali who won't move on price.
- A five minute version of your quarterly presentation, then the three questions a sceptical director would ask.
- A rewrite of a report summary so the first two lines carry the decision.
- Fast listening: a podcast clip or a recorded call, then what was implied as well as said.
Each class ends with a recording and written notes. Advanced learners tend to use these differently. They replay the class the night before the real meeting, which is exactly when it helps most.
For presentations specifically, the guide to advanced public speaking for UAE professionals goes further, and public speaking coaching turns it into one to one practice.
Does better English actually change careers?
The evidence says it often does. Cambridge English and QS surveyed 5,373 employers across 38 countries. About half said staff with better English were offered a better starting package, and English skills were linked to faster career progression.
At Advance level the payoff is less about getting hired and more about being trusted with the room: the client pitch, the board update, the difficult conversation with a regional head. Those are the moments this course is built around.
How do Advance classes fit a senior schedule?
By staying short and fixed. Thirty minutes, Monday to Friday, at one slot in Gulf Standard Time that you choose before you start. Early morning before the school run, a lunch break in a meeting room, or after the last call of the day all work, provided the slot stays protected.
A one month plan runs one calendar month from activation, and unused sessions lapse, so a month with heavy travel is the wrong month to start. Pick a stretch where you can keep the slot, ideally with something real coming up at the end of it: a pitch, a promotion panel, a conference talk.
What should you practise between classes?
One habit at a time, used at work the same day. At this level the gains come from noticing, and noticing needs a narrow target.
- Choose one phrase from the last class and use it in an email or a meeting before the next one.
- Record the first minute of an important call and listen back for filler words.
- Read one long article a day out loud for two minutes, marking where you would pause.
- Rewrite your opening sentence in every important email so the request comes first.
Small, deliberate and repeated. That's what moves a B2 speaker toward C1.
Is Advance English the right spend, or something more focused?
Advance suits you if your English is broadly strong and you want it sharper everywhere: speaking, writing and listening. If your goal is one work skill, something narrower will move faster.
- Business English for meetings, email and negotiation.
- Interview preparation for one panel or one job move.
- IELTS preparation if you need a band score for Canada, Australia or the UK.
- Intermediate English if long conversations still take real effort.
Advance is the one English level that's cheaper as a block: AED 1,331 for two months against AED 783 for one. All prices are on the AED fee page.
