Why children learn German differently
German front loads its difficulty. Three genders and four cases arrive almost immediately, which is what makes adults give up in month two. Children mind it far less, because they absorb der, die and das as part of the word rather than as a rule to memorise.
That is the honest argument for starting young with German specifically, more than with French or Spanish. The part adults find hardest is the part children barely notice.

The levels, for a child
Same CEFR scale as adults, different pace and different material. Most children work through A1 and A2, and teenagers often continue to B1.

Levels follow the CEFR scale published by the Council of Europe. Goethe offers A1 and A2 certificates aimed at young learners aged roughly 10 to 16; confirm the current format and requirement with Goethe before preparing for a specific exam.
What German throws at a child, and when
Knowing what is coming makes the hard weeks less alarming, for the parent as much as the child.
Der, die, das
Three genders with no reliable rule. We teach the article glued to the noun from the very first word, because a child who learns Hund and later has to attach der to it has learned the word twice.
The cases
Endings change depending on the job a word is doing in the sentence. This is the wall, and it lands around A2. Children get through it by hearing and saying correct sentences repeatedly, not by studying tables.
Long words
German builds compounds, so a word can look terrifying and mean something simple. Once a child sees that they are small words stuck together, long words stop being scary and start being a game.
The verb at the end
In some sentences the verb goes last, so you have to know how the sentence finishes before you start it. This one genuinely takes practice out loud, which is most of what the sessions are.

Questions parents ask
What age can my child start German?
Around six is a practical floor for structured lessons, because a child needs to be reading confidently in one language first. Younger than that we keep it to listening, songs and spoken games rather than anything written. Teenagers move faster and can work towards a certificate.
How long are the sessions for a child?
Shorter than an adult class. Thirty minutes of genuine attention beats an hour of drifting, and for younger children we split the time rather than push through. The slot is fixed with you and moves if school or activities change.
Is German too hard for a child?
It is harder at the start than French or Spanish, because the three genders and the case endings arrive immediately. Children mind this far less than adults do.
