PTE Coaching in Dubai and the UAE
PTE Academic and PTE Core, live one to one and online
What the Pearson Test of English actually is, the 10 to 90 score scale, the score you need for Australia, and how the format differs from IELTS. Plus live one to one preparation across every emirate, with an AED 30 demo that starts with a diagnostic.
What is the PTE exam?
PTE stands for Pearson Test of English. It is a computer based English test, marked by machine rather than by an examiner, scored from 10 to 90, and taken in a single sitting of about two hours including the speaking section.
That last detail is the one that decides it for most people in the Emirates.
There is no separate speaking appointment on another day and no interviewer sitting opposite you. You speak into a headset, the machine scores it, and results usually reach you within about two business days rather than a fortnight. For anyone working a full week here, that is the practical difference.
PTE Academic, PTE Core and PTE Home
There are three different PTE tests and they are not interchangeable. Booking the wrong one is the most expensive mistake in this subject, because the fee is not refunded when the receiving authority rejects the test type.
Pearson states that PTE is approved for all UK, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand visa and immigration categories, and that scores are accepted by over 4,000 universities, colleges and professional bodies.
Test descriptions as published by Pearson. Always confirm which test your specific university, employer or immigration route requires before booking, because that requirement is theirs to set and it changes.

The PTE score chart, and what the numbers mean
PTE is scored 10 to 90 on the Global Scale of English. There is no pass mark. The number you need is set by whoever is receiving it, not by Pearson.
| PTE score | Roughly equal to IELTS | What it typically opens |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | 6.0 | Competent English for Australian points, many undergraduate courses |
| 58 | 6.5 | Common undergraduate and some postgraduate requirements |
| 65 | 7.0 | Proficient English for Australian points, most postgraduate admission |
| 73 | 7.5 | Competitive postgraduate and some professional registration |
| 79 | 8.0 | Superior English for Australian points, the usual maximum anyone asks for |
| 83 | 8.5 | Rarely required outside specific professional registers |
PTE to IELTS comparisons are approximate concordance, not an official conversion, and institutions set their own equivalences. Confirm the exact score with the body receiving it.
What score do I need for Australia?
Australian skilled migration uses three named bands, and PTE maps onto them directly: Competent English at PTE 50, Proficient at PTE 65, and Superior at PTE 79.
The jump from Proficient to Superior is worth points on the skilled migration test, which is why so many candidates in the Emirates are chasing 79 specifically rather than a general good score.
Band thresholds are set by the Australian Department of Home Affairs and can change. Verify against the official guidance for your visa subclass before you build a plan around a number.
What is in the test
Three parts, taken back to back in one sitting of roughly two hours. Speaking and writing are assessed together, which surprises people.
| Part | What happens | Where marks are lost |
|---|---|---|
| Speaking & Writing | Personal introduction, read aloud, repeat sentence, describe image, retell lecture, answer short questions, summarise written text, essay | Fluency breaks and hesitation. The machine scores continuity, so a self correction costs more than a small error |
| Reading | Multiple choice, reorder paragraphs, fill in the blanks | Reorder paragraphs, which is pure logic and where slow readers run out of time |
| Listening | Summarise spoken text, multiple choice, fill the blanks, highlight correct summary, write from dictation | Write from dictation, which carries weight in both listening and writing |
That is trainable, and it is most of what our preparation actually does.
PTE or IELTS, honestly
Neither is easier. They reward different things, and the right choice usually comes down to your deadline and how you handle a live examiner.
| PTE | IELTS | |
|---|---|---|
| Marking | Automated | Human examiner |
| Speaking | Into a headset, same sitting | Separate appointment with an examiner |
| Results | Usually about two business days | Typically several days to two weeks |
| Suits you if | You freeze in front of a person, or you need a result fast | You speak better to a human than a microphone |
| Watch out for | Hesitation and self correction are penalised by the algorithm | Handwriting and a nervous speaking interview |
If you have already sat IELTS and missed one band, do not automatically switch. Look at IELTS preparation first, because a One Skill Retake is often cheaper and faster than starting a different test from scratch.
Booking, fees and test centres in Dubai
You book PTE directly with Pearson, never through a coaching provider. Anyone offering to book it for you is adding a middleman you do not need.
Pearson operates over 500 test centres worldwide, including in the UAE. Test dates run frequently rather than on fixed exam days, so booking at short notice is usually possible.
- Fees are set by Pearson and differ by country and test type. Check the current UAE price on the official site, not on a coaching page
- Confirm the test type first. PTE Academic, PTE Core and the UKVI tests are priced and accepted differently
- Book early if you have a visa or admission deadline. Dates are frequent, the slot you want is not
- Take your passport. The name on it must match the booking exactly
How our PTE preparation works
Live, one to one and online, across every emirate. One tutor and one learner, so the whole hour is spent on your weakest sections rather than on a room average.
- A diagnostic in the AED 30 demo that tells you your realistic starting score
- Section by section drilling, weighted to where you are actually losing marks
- Timed practice, because PTE punishes slow reading harder than weak vocabulary
- Recorded speaking practice, played back, so you can hear the hesitation the machine hears
- Write from dictation and reorder paragraphs drilled separately, since they carry disproportionate weight
Who we usually teach. Skilled migration applicants targeting PTE 65 or 79 for Australia, postgraduate applicants who need a score by an admission deadline, and people who have already sat IELTS once and want a faster second route.
Slots run early mornings and after nine in the evening, which is why most of our PTE learners are in full time work.
Fees are on the course fees page, and the demo is AED 30 including an assessment.
Practise before you book anything
No sign up, every answer explained. Worth doing before the demo so the session is spent on technique rather than on finding your level.

Frequently asked questions
What is the full form of PTE?
PTE stands for Pearson Test of English. It is a computer based English test scored from 10 to 90, marked by machine rather than a human examiner, and taken in a single sitting of about two hours that includes the speaking section.
What is the difference between PTE Academic and PTE Core?
PTE Academic is for university admission and for Australian and New Zealand visas. PTE Core is a general English test recognised by the Canadian government for immigration and citizenship. They are separate tests, so check which one your route requires before booking.
What is a good PTE score?
It depends entirely on who is receiving it, because PTE has no pass mark of its own. For Australian skilled migration, 50 is Competent, 65 is Proficient and 79 is Superior. Most postgraduate admission sits somewhere around 58 to 65, and undergraduate a little below that.
What PTE score do I need for Australia?
The Department of Home Affairs recognises PTE 50 as Competent English, 65 as Proficient and 79 as Superior. Proficient and Superior carry points on the skilled migration test, which is why many candidates target 65 or 79 specifically rather than a general good score.
How quickly do PTE results come out?
Usually within about two business days, because the scoring is automated rather than done by a human examiner. That speed is the main reason candidates with a close visa or admission deadline pick PTE over a human marked test, even when they would personally prefer an interviewer.
How much does the PTE exam cost in the UAE?
Pearson sets the fee and it varies by country and by test type, so check the current UAE price on the official Pearson site rather than on any coaching page. Book directly with Pearson too, since no coaching provider needs to sit between you and the test.
Is PTE easier than IELTS?
Neither is easier. They reward different things. PTE is machine marked, so steady continuous delivery scores better than elegant English delivered hesitantly. IELTS tends to suit people who speak better to a human being than into a headset, and who are not racing a deadline.
Do you help me book the exam?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to. You book directly with Pearson at an official test centre. We prepare you for the test, tell you honestly when you are ready, and do not take a cut of the exam fee.
