Grammar, vocabulary and speaking, level by level
Every topic covered in WizMantra UAE English classes, from Basic through to Advance. Read it before you book, so you know exactly what a month buys.
What is actually on the syllabus
Three modules run through every level: grammar, vocabulary and speaking activities. They are taught together in the same class, not as separate courses, because nobody speaks grammar on Monday and vocabulary on Wednesday.
Your level decides how far each module goes.
Classes are one to one, so the tutor can spend a fortnight on conditionals if that is your weak point and skip past articles if they are not. The list below is the full map. Your own route through it will be shorter and more particular than the map suggests.

Grammar module
Grammar is taught as a set of decisions you make while speaking, not as rules to recite. Every topic below is drilled in conversation before it is ever named.
Basic level
- Present simple and present continuous, and knowing which one a sentence needs
- Articles: a, an, the, and the times you use none at all
- Countable and uncountable nouns, plurals, much and many
- Subject and verb agreement, the error that marks a speaker fastest
- Question forms, including the ones that do not use do
- Prepositions of time and place
- There is and there are, possessives, imperatives
- Past simple with regular and irregular verbs
Intermediate level
- Past simple against present perfect, the single most common mistake at this level
- Future forms: will, going to, and the present continuous used for arrangements
- Modals for obligation, permission, advice and possibility
- Comparatives and superlatives, including the irregular ones
- Gerunds and infinitives, and which verbs demand which
- Relative clauses, defining and non defining
- First and second conditionals
- Passive voice in present and past
- Reported speech, and the tense shift that goes with it
- Phrasal verbs, grouped by situation rather than alphabetically
Advance level
- Perfect continuous forms across past, present and future
- Third and mixed conditionals
- Inversion and cleft sentences for emphasis
- Participle clauses, which tighten writing more than any other single change
- Passive reporting structures: it is believed that, he is said to have
- Articles with abstract and generic nouns
- Hedging and modality, so a professional email sounds measured instead of blunt
- Cohesion: linking, referencing, and paragraph logic
- Punctuation for long sentences, where most advanced writing falls apart

Vocabulary module
Vocabulary is the ceiling on fluency. Grammar lets you build a sentence. Words decide whether you can build the sentence you actually meant.
Most learners in the UAE have a wide passive vocabulary and a narrow active one. They recognise thousands of words while reading and reach for the same two hundred when speaking. Closing that gap is the work.
Basic level
Roughly the first thousand high frequency words, taught in situations rather than lists: family and introductions, food and ordering, numbers, money, telling the time, directions, the clinic, the shop, the first day at work.
Intermediate level
- Collocations, because words travel in pairs and the wrong pair sounds foreign
- Word families: analyse, analysis, analytical, analytically
- Workplace sets for email, meetings, deadlines and escalation
- Language for describing change: rose sharply, levelled off, dipped
- Opinion and hedging language
- Everyday UAE vocabulary: tenancy contracts, Emirates ID, RTA and Salik, clinic and insurance
Advance level
- Register: the same idea in formal, neutral and casual English
- Precision verbs that replace do, make, get and have
- Idiom used in business, and the idioms to avoid because they date you
- Academic vocabulary for IELTS writing and university work
- Tone control in writing, so a chaser does not read as an accusation
- One industry set of your choice: finance, logistics, healthcare, construction, retail or hospitality

Speaking activities
This is where the class time mostly goes. In a one to one class you speak for the whole session, which is the entire argument against group classes.
Activities are chosen to match your life, not a textbook order.

How long each level takes
One month of daily classes covers one level for most learners who start at the right place. Starting at the wrong place is the usual reason it takes longer.
That is what the demo is for. Thirty dirhams, one session, and you leave knowing which level you belong in and what your first fortnight looks like.

Frequently asked questions
Is the syllabus the same for every student?
The map is the same, the route is not. Classes are one to one, so the tutor moves faster through what you already know and slows down on what you do not. Two learners on the same level rarely spend the same number of days on the same topic.
Do I need to finish Basic before moving to Intermediate?
Only if Basic is where you actually are. The demo class includes a level check, and plenty of learners who assumed they were beginners turn out to belong in Intermediate.
Is grammar taught separately from speaking?
No. Grammar is introduced inside conversation and drilled in speaking activities in the same session. It is only named afterwards, once you have already used it.
What does each level cost?
Basic is AED 430 a month, Intermediate AED 613 and Advance AED 783 for one to one online classes. Longer bookings are listed on the course fees page.
Can the syllabus be built around my job?
Yes, and at Advance level it usually is. You choose one industry vocabulary set, and speaking activities shift towards the meetings, calls and writing you actually do.
How is this different from a group class?
Speaking time. In a group you speak for a fraction of the hour. Here you speak for all of it, which is the only reason a month is enough to move a level.
