What Are WizMantra English Classes for Kids in the UAE?
They're live online English lessons for children, one tutor and one child, 30 minutes a class, Monday to Friday at a slot you keep. Your child speaks for most of the session, and the AED 30 demo starts with a level check so the tutor knows where to begin.
Why one to one English classes for children?
Because a quiet child can't hide in one. In a class of twenty, the confident three do most of the talking. With one tutor, your child speaks for most of the session, and the tutor hears every error.
The Education Endowment Foundation's review of the evidence puts the average gain from one to one tuition at about five additional months of progress, and finds it works best in short, regular sessions of around 30 minutes, three to five times a week (EEF Teaching and Learning Toolkit). That's the shape of these classes: 30 minutes, Monday to Friday, at the same slot.
It also changes what a mistake feels like. Nobody laughs, nobody's waiting, and the tutor fixes it quietly and moves on. For a seven year old who's already decided they're bad at English, that matters more than any worksheet.
What does a 30 minute kids English class look like?
It moves fast, and your child does most of the talking. A typical class for a primary school child runs roughly like this:
- Talking first. Your child speaks in the first five minutes, about their day, a picture or a story.
- Reading aloud. Slow, corrected and repeated, the fastest route to pronunciation and confidence.
- One grammar point. Taken from the mistakes your child made that day.
- Short bursts. Activities change every few minutes for younger children.
- A quick recap. The two or three new words and one corrected sentence, said again before the class ends.
Older children, from about Grade 6, get longer turns: explaining a science topic, arguing one side of a question, presenting a book they've read. After every class you get a recording and written notes, so you can see exactly what was covered.
My child reads well but won't speak. Is that normal?
Very. Reading and speaking are separate skills, and a child who reads at grade level can still freeze when asked a question. That's confidence and practice, not vocabulary. It improves when silence isn't an option, which is exactly what a one to one class creates.
It's common in the UAE for a simple reason. Many children speak Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, Urdu or Tagalog at home and use English only at school, where a big class gives them few chances to speak. They understand everything and answer in single words.
The fix is slow and unglamorous. Short questions first, then longer ones, then a story told back in their own words. Most children don't notice the change. Parents usually do, at the dinner table or on a call with a cousin abroad.
Which school curriculum do the classes support?
All of them, because the classes build general English rather than one syllabus. British, American, IB and CBSE schools in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi all need the same core: speaking clearly, reading with understanding, and writing a correct paragraph.
UAE children also carry a heavy language load. Arabic is compulsory in UAE private schools, and many children add Hindi, French or another language on top, so English time at school can feel squeezed. A focused 30 minutes at home helps balance that.
The tutor can work on school tasks when there's a specific worry, such as a reading test, a comprehension paper or a class presentation. For grammar on its own there are grammar classes for kids, and for a second language there are French and German for children.
Which English mistakes do UAE children make most?
It depends on the language spoken at home, and that makes the mistakes easy to predict. A tutor who knows the pattern spots it in the first class.
- Arabic at home: dropping is and are ("my brother tall"), and saying b for p, because Arabic has no separate p sound.
- Hindi or Urdu at home: using -ing too much ("I am knowing the answer") and leaving out a and the.
- Malayalam or Tamil at home: keeping statement order in questions ("why you are late?").
- Tagalog at home: mixing up he and she, because Filipino uses one word, siya, for both.
None of this means a child is behind. It's their first language showing through, and it fades with steady correction. The tutor picks the one that matters most each week rather than fixing everything at once.
How quickly will my child improve?
Faster in speaking than in writing, and faster than most parents expect in confidence. We won't promise a level in a set number of weeks, because children differ too much for that to be honest.
What you can watch for instead: longer answers to the tutor's questions, fewer pauses before speaking, reading aloud without stopping at every long word, and fewer repeats of the same mistake in the notes. The class notes make this easy to track month to month.
A one month plan runs for one calendar month from activation, and unused sessions lapse. Pick a slot your child can keep around school, homework and activities, because regular attendance moves things far more than any single great class.
What happens in the AED 30 kids demo?
The tutor talks and reads with your child for one class and works out their level while doing it. There's no test paper. Younger children often describe a picture or retell a short story, and older ones answer a few questions about school and what they like.
You're welcome to sit in. By the end you'll know where your child stands, what the first month would focus on, and whether the tutor suits them. You choose a plan after that.
How can parents help between classes?
Keep English light and daily. Ten minutes of reading together does more than an hour of worksheets on Saturday.
- Replay part of the class recording and let your child teach you the new words.
- Ask one open question in English at dinner and wait for the full answer.
- Read a page of a storybook aloud together at bedtime, taking turns.
- Let older children write a short message or email in English, then read it back to you.
For a quick check at home, the free English practice tests include short quizzes older children can try. Children who freeze in front of a class can build on this with public speaking coaching later, and every children's course is listed under language classes for kids. Fees are on the AED fee page.
