Achieve Your Study Abroad Dreams with IELTS Academic
Any student in the UAE aspiring to study abroad must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Alongside TOEFL and PTE, the IELTS Academic test is among the most sought-after by international students.
English serves as the medium of instruction in most universities globally. Students from non-English speaking schools or even English-medium backgrounds often find it challenging to match the advanced language requirements abroad. Therefore, universities require specific proficiency levels for students from non-native English-speaking countries. IELTS Academic scores are essential for meeting these standards.
What is the IELTS Academic?
The IELTS Academic test evaluates your English knowledge across four key areas: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Familiarity with the test format and systematic preparation are critical to success.
WizMantra UAE conducts dedicated IELTS coaching classes for students, helping them achieve their study abroad aspirations.
Fees are in UAE dirhams for live one to one online classes. Every course starts with the AED 30 demo, which includes a level assessment. Full price list on the AED fees page.

What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to evaluate the English language skills of candidates who plan to study or work in environments where English is the primary language of communication. IELTS is a mandatory requirement for university admissions in the UK and many other countries.

How Do You Prepare for the IELTS?
Rigorous preparation is essential for success in the IELTS exam. Start by regularly reading English newspapers and quality books. Practice speaking English with others as much as possible. Watching English movies without subtitles is another effective way to improve your listening skills. Additionally, focus on writing good English by paying close attention to grammar. Use simple and clear language to minimize mistakes.
Join a Reliable Test Series
When you feel confident in your preparations, join a reliable test series. Mock tests are an excellent way to simulate the actual exam and refine your skills. Performing well in these tests boosts your confidence, making it easier to achieve the minimum overall band score of ‘6’. With consistent practice and guidance, scoring high on the IELTS becomes a manageable goal, and you also develop advanced English proficiency.

Levels and Scores
The IELTS is a multi-level exam where candidates receive a score ranging from 1 to 9. Half scores, such as 6.5, are also possible. Universities typically require an IELTS score of 6 or 7, with some institutions mandating minimum scores in each of the four sections: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.

What Is IELTS Academic Preparation at WizMantra UAE?
It's live one to one coaching online for candidates who need an IELTS Academic score for a university place or a professional registration, 30 minutes a class at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time. The full course is AED 1,038 and it starts with an AED 30 demo, where a trainer estimates your band in each module and plans the hours around the weakest one. For most applicants here, that's writing.
Who needs IELTS Academic rather than General Training?
Anyone applying to a university, a college course or a professional register that asks for it. That covers most Grade 12 students in Dubai and Sharjah applying to the UK, Canada, Australia or Ireland, and plenty of working professionals going back for a master's.
General Training is the version for migration and work files, and it's a different test in reading and writing. If your paperwork says Academic, book Academic. If you're not sure which one your file needs, the IELTS preparation overview compares the two, and the IELTS General Training course covers the migration side in detail.
One overlap catches people out. Australia's skilled visas accept either version for competent English, at least 6 in each of the four components, but they don't accept tests taken online at home, including IELTS Online (Australian Department of Home Affairs). Sit it at a test centre.
How much does the IELTS Academic test cost in the UAE?
At IDP UAE it's AED 1,590 on computer. Here's the current table, before you add a single class:
| IDP UAE test option | Fee |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic or General Training, on computer | AED 1,590 |
| IELTS Academic or General Training, on computer with writing on paper | AED 1,750 |
| IELTS for UKVI | AED 1,680 |
| One Skill Retake (one module only) | AED 1,000 |
Source: IDP UAE test dates and fees. Test fees are set by the test centre and can change, so check before you book.
So a full resit costs more than our whole course. That's the honest case for preparing properly once. IELTS for UKVI is the version some UK visa routes ask for; university admission on its own usually doesn't need it, but your offer letter will say.
Test centres operate in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, among other cities. Our pages on IELTS in Abu Dhabi and IELTS in Sharjah cover booking in those emirates.
What does Writing Task 1 actually ask you to do?
Describe a visual in at least 150 words. It might be a line graph of tourist arrivals, a bar chart comparing energy use in three countries, a table, a map of a town before and after, or a diagram of how something's made.
Most candidates lose marks in the same two places. They describe every number in order, and they never write an overview. Examiners want the main trends and the biggest comparisons picked out in one or two sentences, then the detail that supports them. No opinions. No reasons the chart doesn't give you.
- Open by paraphrasing the question, then give the overview straight away.
- Group the data. Two body paragraphs, each about one clear pattern, beat five paragraphs of numbers.
- Use a range of trend language: rose steadily, peaked at, fell back to, remained flat, roughly a third.
- For a process diagram, use the passive and sequence words, since nobody in the picture is doing the action.
Task 2 is the 250 word essay and it carries more of the writing score, so it gets more class time. You can try prompts on the IELTS Writing Task 2 practice page before your first class and bring your answer to the demo.
Which IELTS Academic band do UAE applicants usually need?
Usually 6 or 7 overall, and often a minimum in each module as well. A course might ask for 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, for example. The catch is the second number: a strong 7.5 in reading won't rescue a 5.5 in writing if the university sets a floor.
Check the exact entry requirement on each course page, write it down per module, and plan for the hardest one. To turn practice scores into a band, use the IELTS band score calculator. If your target is 7 or above, our article on what band 7 takes for UAE candidates explains where the marks sit.
Where do Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam and Tagalog speakers lose marks?
In predictable places, which is useful. Your first language shapes the mistakes you make in English, and a trainer who knows the pattern can go straight at it.
- Arabic speakers often write very long sentences joined with and, drop is and are, and swap p and b when speaking, because Arabic has no separate p sound.
- Hindi and Urdu speakers tend to overuse the continuous tense ("the graph is showing") and leave out a and the, which costs marks for grammatical accuracy in both tasks.
- Malayalam and Tamil speakers often keep statement word order in questions, which shows up in speaking Part 3.
- Tagalog speakers sometimes mix up he and she, because Filipino uses one pronoun for both.
Students from English medium schools here aren't exempt. Their risk is different: fluent, informal writing that sounds like a WhatsApp message, with no overview in Task 1 and a vague position in Task 2. Fluency gets you a long way in speaking. Writing needs structure.
How does a 30 minute online class prepare you for test day?
One skill, one problem, one fix per class. A typical week might be a Task 1 line graph marked and rewritten on Monday, a reading set on Wednesday timed to the minute, and a speaking Part 2 practised twice on Friday.
Thirty minutes sounds short. It isn't, when nobody else is in the room. You write the essay before class, so the class is spent on what went wrong in it: the overview you skipped, the paragraph that drifted, the three grammar slips that keep coming back.
- Speaking is practised live with a person, so you get used to being interrupted and asked to say more.
- Writing is marked against the four public criteria: task achievement or response, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy.
- Every class is recorded, with written notes, so you can replay the corrections.
- Timed mocks give a band estimate per module, so you know when you're ready to book.
For speaking prompts between classes, the IELTS speaking questions page has Part 1 to Part 3 sets you can record yourself answering.
How long should you prepare before booking the test?
It depends on the gap, and nobody can tell you honestly without hearing you first. That's what the demo is for. A candidate already at 6.5 who needs 7 is in a very different spot from one at 5.5 who needs 6.5 in every module.
A sensible rule: don't book the test until your timed mocks reach the target in every module, twice. Work back from your application deadline and start early enough that you're not paying AED 1,590 a second time.
If you sit the test and miss in one module only, IDP's One Skill Retake lets you resit that module for AED 1,000. It's worth knowing about, but plan to pass the first time. If you'd rather compare other tests, there's TOEFL preparation and PTE preparation too, and every price is on the AED fee page.
