Professional French is a different course
If you need French for work rather than for travel, the vocabulary you need is narrow and the register matters. We build the syllabus from what you actually do.
- Email and written register. French professional writing is more formal than English, and getting that wrong reads worse than a grammar mistake.
- Meetings and calls, including the polite formulas that carry a lot of weight and are almost never taught in general courses.
- Your sector's vocabulary, whether that is energy, culture or education, rather than a generic word list.
- Understanding at speed, which is the hard part and the one that decides whether you can sit in a meeting.
One thing to settle early. If your goal is a certificate rather than the job itself, say so at the demo, because DELF preparation and professional French pull in different directions.
Time spent on one is time not spent on the other.
What the levels mean here
A1 to B2 on the CEFR scale. For most Abu Dhabi professionals the target is B1, which is the point where you can work in the language rather than perform in it.

CEFR levels are published by the Council of Europe. Where an employer or institution states a level, theirs is the requirement that counts.
Abu Dhabi runs on institutional French
The capital has a French footprint that is academic and official rather than commercial, and it changes who needs the language and at what level.
This is the real difference between learning French here and in Dubai.
The practical consequence: Abu Dhabi learners more often need a specific level for a specific requirement, with a date attached, rather than general conversation. Tell us the requirement at the start and the plan is built backwards from it.
How long does it take to learn French?
The US Foreign Service Institute puts French in its easiest group for English speakers: roughly 600 to 750 class hours to professional working proficiency. It is the most reliable figure published anywhere, because the FSI has been timing exactly this for decades.
Which makes the question people actually ask easy to answer honestly.
Is three months enough to learn French?
Not to fluency. Anyone promising that is selling something.
Three months of steady one to one work takes most people through A1 and into A2: introducing yourself, ordering, asking directions, handling a short exchange at work, reading a simple email. A real result, and not the same thing as fluency. The difference is mostly hours.

Typical ranges for two or three one to one sessions a week, not a guarantee. The FSI hour figure assumes intensive full time study, which almost nobody here is doing.
What is the 80/20 rule in French?
The idea that a small slice of the language does most of the work. The most frequent thousand or so French words cover the large majority of ordinary speech, so learning those properly beats learning five thousand badly.
A rule of thumb rather than a law. It is why early sessions drill a narrow set of verbs, etre, avoir, aller, faire, pouvoir, vouloir, until they are automatic.
The other 20 percent is where fluency actually lives. Nobody puts that on a poster.
What A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 mean in French
Six CEFR levels, published by the Council of Europe and used by every French exam board. DELF covers A1 to B2. DALF covers C1 and C2.

CEFR descriptors are published by the Council of Europe.
We teach A1 to B2, which is where essentially every practical requirement sits: work, DELF, school and immigration files. Past B2 the work is literary and idiomatic, better done by reading and living in the language than by taking classes.

Be honest about your week before choosing. The usual failure is not the method. It is booking a term of evening classes and stopping in week three because the travel beat the intention.
Where you actually sit DELF and TCF
We teach the French. We do not run the exam, and no honest provider claims to. DELF, DALF, TCF and TEF are run by accredited centres, and you book directly with them.
Alliance Francaise Abu Dhabi is the long standing French cultural centre in the capital and runs official examinations. Session dates are fixed months ahead and fill up, particularly before the university and immigration deadlines.
- Confirm which exam your university, employer or immigration route actually requires before you book
- Check the current exam calendar and fee with the centre directly, since both change
- Register early. Missing a session usually means waiting months, not weeks
- Tell us the exam and the date in your first session, because preparation for a graded exam is not the same as general conversation practice
If the goal is Canada, read the next section before you book anything at all.
If it is for Canada, the exam is not DELF
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada accepts only TEF Canada and TCF Canada for French. DELF and DALF do not count. People discover this after paying for the wrong exam.
It is the most expensive mistake in this subject.
French results are reported on the NCLC scale, the French counterpart of CLB. Most applicants are aiming at NCLC 7 in all four abilities, roughly CEFR B2.

French tutoring for school students
School French is a different job from adult French. The exam sets the syllabus, and the marks are usually lost in predictable places.

Is there a French class near me?
Honestly, no, and deliberately. There is no WizMantra classroom in Abu Dhabi. Every session is live video with one tutor and one learner, so the nearest class is wherever you are sitting.
Which turns the usual disadvantage of living outside the centre into nothing at all.
Khalifa City, Al Reem, Yas Island, Al Mushrif, Mussafah or out at Al Ain: it makes no difference to us, and a great deal of difference to your week.

Can you teach French for my job rather than in general?

What level do I need to work in French?
B1 for most roles, which is where you can hold a work conversation and follow a colleague speaking normally. B2 if you will be in meetings or writing professionally. If an employer has stated a level, use theirs.
What does it cost?
AED 640 for one month, AED 1,200 for two, AED 1,536 for three, the same in every emirate. The demo is AED 30 and includes a level check.
How quickly can I get to B1?
Around nine to twelve months at two or three sessions a week from a standing start, and faster if you already speak Spanish or Italian. Anyone quoting a fixed number of hours is guessing, because the variable is how much you speak.
Do you prepare for DELF?
Up to B2. Confirm which level your institution requires before you prepare, because DELF preparation and professional French are not the same course and time spent on one is time not spent on the other.

Do you tutor French for IB or GCSE students?
Yes. IB French B at Standard and Higher Level and ab initio, plus Key Stage 3 through GCSE and A Level. Sessions target the oral assessment and written accuracy, which is where most marks go missing, rather than re-teaching the whole syllabus.
Is there a French class near me in Abu Dhabi?
