How to use these

A quiz tells you what you got wrong. That is useful, and it is also the limit of what a quiz can do.

Take the level test first. Most people misplace themselves by a full CEFR level, usually downwards if they are shy and upwards if they are fluent but inaccurate.
Read the explanations, not just the score. The score tells you how many. The explanation tells you why, which is the part that transfers.
Retake after a week, not immediately. Immediate retakes measure memory. A week later measures learning.
Notice patterns. If you keep failing the same kind of question, that is your syllabus. Three wrong articles is not three mistakes, it is one.

One exception to that order. If you already know which exam you are sitting, skip the diagnostics and go straight there: IELTS Task 2 and IELTS speaking for a band score, PTE or the Duolingo test if you are still choosing a format, OET if you are a nurse or a doctor applying for a licence here. The level test is for people who do not yet know what they are aiming at.

Where practice stops working

Recognition and production are different skills. A quiz measures the first. Speaking is the second, and no amount of multiple choice builds it.

You can score well on every test here and still freeze in a meeting. That is not a contradiction, it is the normal gap between knowing a rule and producing it in real time under pressure. Closing it needs talking, with someone who corrects you as you go.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay or sign up to use these?

No. Every quiz on this page is open to anyone, with no sign up and no email address. You get a score, the correct answer and an explanation for each question. The only paid thing on the site is the AED 30 demo class.

Which one should I start with?

The English Level Test. It places you on the CEFR scale in ten minutes, which tells you whether the rest of your practice should focus on basics, on exam technique, or on precision and register.

Do these prepare me for IELTS?

The IELTS speaking and writing pages cover the real formats and marking criteria. They are preparation, not a substitute for the exam, and they will not give you a band score. Only the real test does that.

Will practice alone improve my speaking?

Partly. Quizzes build recognition, vocabulary and exam technique. They cannot build fluency, because fluency only improves when you speak and someone corrects you in the moment. That is the gap a class fills.

Do I need to be in the UAE to use these?

No, anyone can use them. They are written for UAE learners, so the examples use UAE workplaces, CEFR levels as UAE employers specify them, and Gulf English habits, which makes them more useful here than a generic quiz.
